1854 A decree abolishing slavery in Venezuela was signed on 24 March. Simon Bolivar launched a campaign for the abolition of slavery in 1816, but it did not materialize until 38 years later, on March 24, 1854, the then President of the Republic, José Gregorio Monagas signed an implementation of the decree, which granted freedom to 40,000 slaves in Venezuela.

An international exhibition was created by Mujeres de la pintura en Aragua  to mark the anniversary.

The application was open to all countries. Twenty-two works were selected.

The chains in your cage will break and become free. With this symbol, I expressed the abolition of slavery.

It was a pleasure to take part in this exhibition, to be part of such an extraordinary anniversary, which was a defining event in the history of Venezuela.

Congratulations to all the creators and award-winning artists.

I thank the HPMAA Foundation, the qualification jury, for their work. (Aragua Women of the Arts and curator Angélica Leal is the legal director of Lea Lea Lea.
